Jan 3, 2025 – Chiang Rai, Thailand, Part 1

A day tour to Chiang Rai: White Temple, Blue Temple and Black House.

Wat Rong Khun, famously known as The White Temple, is a jaw-dropping masterpiece brought to life by Chalermchai Kositpipat, a celebrated visual artist with a flair for the extraordinary. Using his own money, he resurrected the temple from its humble, deteriorating state into a dazzling work of art that seems straight out of another dimension.

The temple’s snow-white structure, adorned with countless tiny mirrors, catches the sunlight in a way that makes it sparkle like a celestial disco ball—if disco balls were designed by angels. Photos simply can’t capture the full brilliance of this place, but trust me, it’s the kind of beauty that leaves you wondering if you’ve accidentally stepped into a dream.

Noteworthy: this place has the most beautiful toilet in the world. For real.

Word(s) of the Day: Bangkok has the longest name in the world for a city in Thai language. Bangkok’s full name is pronounced something like this: “Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit”. Which translates to “City of Angels, great city of immortals, magnificent city of nine gems, seat of the king”. Most people in Thailand simply refer to it as “Krung Thep Maha Nakhon” or even just “Krung Thep” for short.
