Today started off slower than a sloth on a lazy day (we couldn’t even summon the strength to leave the bed, thanks to being extra tired), but somehow, we turned it around and ended up being wildly productive. Go us!
We kicked off with a trip to the University of Sydney, which totally gave me “Hogwarts, but make it Australia” vibes. I couldn’t help but daydream about being a student there. I could totally see myself lounging on the lush lawn in the Quadrangle, book in hand, pretending to study for exams while actually just napping. Maybe one day Daniel will grace this campus with his presence, living out the dream I never had!
The cherry on top? A graffiti tunnel at the Uni where anyone can unleash their inner Banksy. Talk about an art class with zero rules—super cool!
Next up was the Chau Chak Wing Museum – tiny but mighty. It may be compact, but it’s absolutely crammed with history. Some of the highlights start with a Mummy room (no, not the “I need my mom” kind, the ancient Egyptian kind), and ends with an array of Greek, Roman, and Mesopotamian treasures.
But let’s be real, my favorite part was the Kerameikos exhibit. Remember that from Greece? (If not, refresh your memory here: https://onegreenpin.com/sep-16-2024-athens-greece/) Basically, Kerameikos used to be the pottery district in Ancient Greece before it became a cemetery. But hey, that’s a minor detail. The exhibit did a fabulous job of blending ancient history with the present day, and I’m still thinking about it.
Finally, we waddled our way over to the Sydney Fish Market at Darling Harbour, where we tried some fresh Coffin Bay (South Australia) and Moulting Bay (Tasmania) oysters. They were so good, I almost wanted to propose to them. We also grabbed some fresh mussels and whipped up a dinner so delicious, it made me question why I’m not a professional chef. First time cooking mussels, and they turned out chef’s kiss. Who knew I had it in me?! (Said by the totally humble, incredibly modest part of me.)
