Mar 28, 2025 – Wellington, New Zealand

We kicked off the day with a visit to the Space Place – an observatory tucked away in the Wellington Botanical Gardens. And when I say “visited,” what I really mean is we climbed there, because surprise, surprise, Wellington seems to be built entirely on hills. So yeah, expect free cardio with every step.

At the Space Place, we caught a Planetarium show about Astronauts, learned how to spot the Southern Cross constellation (only visible from the southern hemisphere, so we need to be taking this great opportunity before returning to our home, sweet, northern hemisphere), and discovered how to determine south using just the stars. Not too shabby, right?

The Botanical Gardens were a lovely maze of hills, hidden paths, and the Rose garden with roses’ names fancier than I’ll ever be. There was even an orangery! I snapped a pic of a monarch butterfly just chilling on a flower, because I’m cultured like that.

After a well-earned lunch break, we strolled over to Queens Wharf to soak in the local scenery, where we tried to not look like tourists.
