Auckland greeted us with rain and wind, but did we let that stop us from exploring? Absolutely not. First, we ducked into the Auckland Art Gallery (free, thank you very much), where I marveled at a few of my faves—Picasso, Dali, and Monet. No big deal, just casually surrounded by masterpieces.
Next up, we went to Dumpling House (11 Victoria Street East) for lunch, where we devoured the most ridiculously delicious dumplings. Seriously, I’d move to Auckland just for these.
After our dumpling-fueled euphoria, we took a leisurely stroll along the High Street to the waterfront and hit up the New Zealand Maritime Museum ($33 for all three of us). Best decision ever. We got to design our own sailboats (electronically, of course) and raced them like the competitive geniuses we are. Oh, and there was this boat simulation where the floor moved like you were on the ocean—definitely gave us a taste of what it’s like to be a pirate.
Sadly, the weather refused to let us enjoy the wharfs, so we called it a day and headed home. But hey, we still crushed it.
