Flew to Sofia, Bulgaria.
- My first impression of Sofia is that it is very Soviet looking: the streets, the way the younger people dressed, and even their haircuts. It transported me back to my childhood and I did not like that. Marat, on the other hand, enjoyed it.
- Most of the buildings in Sofia’s center are the Communist Era, Stalinist-looking buildings. The old city does not exist (with the exception of Serdica Archeological Complex) due to WWII and then Communistic rule afterwords.
- The city feels safe to walk. We see a lot of kids young age using public transportation to get to their schools. Generally, the kids and the youth are busy with going to colleges, schools, universities. There are a lot of science and math-oriented educational facilities. We met with one of the tourists in Sofia from Netherlands, who told us that his firm was hiring a lot of Bulgarians for their math skills.
