  • Epicurean – fond of or adapted to luxury or indulgence in sensual pleasures; having luxurious tastes or habits, especially in eating and drinking. Hence “epic”!
  • Stoic – a person who can endure pain or hardship without showing their feelings or complaining. stoic implies an apparent indifference to pleasure or especially to pain often as a matter of principle or self-discipline.
  • Areopagus – earliest aristocratic council of ancient Athens. The name was taken from the Areopagus (“Ares’ Hill”), a low hill northwest of the Acropolis, which was its meeting place.
