Sep 6, 2024 – Athens, Greece

Went for a run 2.5 mi at around 10am – was so unpleasantly hot. The Friday market was already bustling on our street.

  • Went for grocery shopping on the market. So convenient to have it downstairs. The prices were somewhat similar to the ones in LIDL, but the quality of produce was a bit better. Spent EUR 37 for a pretty good selection of groceries.
  • Went to the center to visit the Museum Ancient Greek technology where a replica of the antikythera mechanism is displayed. The museum was tiny. While the family price was only EUR 12, there were only two small floors to view. The museum was smaller than the small chocolate museum in Barcelona. Surprisingly enough (or not?), I was more intrigued by the Vaginal Speculum – the medical gynecological instrument that was invented in the 4th century BC! We also liked playing Trias, or ancient Tic-tac-toe.
  • Went to Hondos Center (looked like mini-Macy’s) to buy toiletries.
  • Went on walking near the Syntagma square. Bought super delicious gyros with lamb there. Then tried watermelon smoothie at Mikel’s. Was unexpectedly refreshing.
  • Watched “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” that is based around the antikythera mechanism: An actual ancient Greek object that tracked the cycles of the sun, the moon, and the planets against the stars.
